Forensics Nerd Out
This past weekend we had our first two tournaments for middle school forensics. It may have been a little too ambitious to schedule tournaments back to back but our students did so well! At the first tournament we had our veteran news reporting team take first place but we also had a student who was attending his very first meet take first place in poetry.
On top of that we had a number of entries earn two blue ribbons, which qualifies them for City, and puts them just one blue ribbon away from qualifying for State.
I'm sure it's going to be a whirlwind through the end of the season, and I'm already feeling overwhelmed with trying to do my best for this team and I need to accept that I'm going to fall short occasionally.
I do need to express my thanks to the both of tournaments' hosts - Tabitha helped me so much in preparing for the season, and Barbara was so kind to delay her tournament's start time when our bus was an hour late picking us up. When Barbara said "It's ok - we were all first year coaches once," I nearly burst into tears. I don't like to mess up, I don't want to do things wrong, and I hold myself to a terribly high standard that I cannot always reach, so to have someone remind me that it will all be ok was extremely reassuring.
